The 198km second stage of the Ruta del Sol ran from Sevilla to Iznajar, which proved to be another challenging day for the riders with three categorized climbs.
The race was decided in the last kilometer, which consisted of a punchy climb with a maximum gradient of 18%. It was Gonzalo Serrano (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA) who took the win, and our Dylan Teauns who finished in third. Despite the victory for Serrano, there was still no change in the general classification as Landa and Teauns remain second and third respectively.
Teuns was pleased with his consecutive third-place finish “I’m third again! the team did a really good job but climbing in the last km I made a mistake not to follow Sonny Colbrelli. The good news is that I still have good legs, and the condition is good. I’ll try to win a stage “.
“After yesterday’s crash – Mark Padun said – I was curious to see how I would have gone today, and I must say that it went better than expected. I worked for the team, and the feelings were good. “
Our SD Gorazd Štangelj was happy with the team performance: “Even today we had a good race and kept the break under control. Mark Padun did a great job to get the attackers back. We have found a stronger rider than us, but this is how we work, and sooner or later we will find victory. Tomorrow the stage will be tough mainly because there are some initial climbs and it is very likely that there will be attacks, we will have to keep our eyes wide open.”
