Team Bahrain McLAREN Thinks Big for Flanders Classics openers

It’s an exciting weekend in Vlaanderen for Team Bahrain McLaren as the team will show its jersey at the opening classics in Belgium for the first time.

The team is looking forward to making its mark in the classics style of racing. Tristan Hoffman, sports director of the team, noted that this race may be a good rehearsal for the whole 2020 classics season. He also said the team is highly motivated and has big ambitions towards the classics calendar. Dylan Teuns comes to the Belgium Classics opener after his great ITT win at the Ruta Del Sol, Sonny Colbrelli in the uprising shape and a top 10 at the ITT at Ruta and Phil Bauhaus carrying the great feeling after his GC victory at Saudi Tour.

Omploop Het Nieuwsblad, celebrating its 75th anniversary is a race with lots of climbs in Vlaanderen. It’s a very fast start and the team is focusing on Dylan Teuns and Sonny Colbrelli, who will get protection at any time from experienced riders such as Marcel Sieberg, Heinrich Haussler and Grega Bole. Luka Pibernik and Fred Wright may also be ready for breakaways.

The key to the race is to start the climbs and cobbles in a good position and be ready for the last two and famous climbs. These climbs are at the old parts of the old Tour of Vlaanderen, the Geraardsbergen and Bosberg climb at the last 18 and 15 km to the finish line.

We all believe that we have all rights to expect good results from our riders, who are very well prepared and have shown good shape in the early season races. Permanent and good positioning of the team is very important and we will fight for it and watch out for Sonny, Dylan, Phil, … and give all we can for the final sprints.

Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne is a similar race to Het Nieuwsblad with Oude Kvaremont, the key point at 115 km as a crucial climb. There are a lot of splits to be expected, but in the end, there might be a bigger group for the finish.

Sonny Colbrelli will be our leader at this race as he has strong legs for such a sprint, together with sprinter Phil Bauhaus who won the Saudi Tour and is keeping in good shape.

On both races, the big fights will be before the climbs and cobblestones and I believe our guys are ready for the exciting races of the Flanders Classics opening races.

Sonny Colbrelli said: “I am very motivated for the upcoming races as I worked well in altitude and after my performance in Andalusia, which was a very tough race. After Andalusia, I can be happy with my condition at the last stage in ITT, and a top 10 position shows me that I can be satisfied and go along. We are a strong team for the Flanders Classics openers, and I see that it might be a great weekend for all of us in Team Bahrain McLaren. My dream would be to win on Saturday. Hopefully, it will come true”.

Dylan Teuns noted: “I’m really happy with the start of my season and the shape I’m in is good. I’m motivated as always to start the opening classics weekend in Belgium the proper way. It is a race which gives me goosebumps with all those numerous spectators and many of my fans which will give me and my teammates additional motivation”.

Heinrich Haussler, one of our most experienced riders, noted a few days ago that here come his most important 5 weeks of the season.

We are coming to “Omloop Het Nieuwsblad” and “Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne” with a strong, very motivated and experienced team. We are here to present our new team, new colours and we think big.
