On Wednesday, 7th October, the 60th »race with a character«, a cycling classic De Brabantse Pijl will start in Leuven. Our strong line-up will include also the 2017 winner and 2018 runner-up of the race, the Italian sprinter Sonny Colbrelli.
The famous one-day classic will start in the capital of the province of Flemish Brabant, Leuven. The 196,8 km long race will pass Flemish Brabant and Walloon Brabant towards the Zenne Valley, where the riders will tackle the climbs of the Alsemberg, Bruineput, and Lotsesteenweg, better known as the Beerselenberg. Riders will then head to Overijse in the opposite direction. There, the final stretch will take place, with three local rounds, including climbs over Hagaard, Herstraat, Holstheide, and Schavei. The last two local rounds will feature an additional climb to Moskesstraat.
Sprinter Sonny Colbrelli who won 3rd place on Saturday’s hard stage at BinckBank Tour feels good about the upcoming race: »After a crash at Individual Time Trial at the BinckBank Tour, I still feel slight pain. But I am highly motivated for Wednesday’s race, I like this race and would certainly like to be a protagonist and try to achieve a good result.«
Sports Director Tim Harris prepared the race strategy and is optimistic for the upcoming challenge: »The race tomorrow is a very very tough one, but we have Sonny Colbrelli, who has won the race a few years ago, so I think tomorrow we have a good chance. We also have Dylan, who is from this area and will also be good tomorrow. And also Wout. The end of this race is very very hard because of the finishing circuits with a new addition this year of a cobbled climb, called the Moskesstraat. The interesting thing about this new climb is that it will be in the World Championships next year, when the World Championships are in Belgium, so it will be a good chance for the riders to see how they go over this climb. We are looking forward to a good race and we have a good strong team here, capable of winning.«
