Strong team for the biggest Middle Eastern race – UAE Tour

The second edition of the seven-stage UAE Tour has a stellar line up of riders. Four-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome making his return from injury, Slovenian Tadej Pogacar representing the hosts UAE team, Wilco Kalderman, Adam Yates, Alejandro Valverde and our Wout Poels making up the group of favourites.

Wout will be our leader, while Mark Cavendish will be our sprinter. Mark will have great rivals to battle out the sprints such as Pascal Ackerman, Arnaud Demare, Sam Bennett, Fernando Gaviria and Caleb Ewan. There are four flat stages where we expect a sprint finish, while the GC will be decided on two climbs to Jabel Hafeet on stages three and five. The second stage is the first test for the GC with a small but punchy climb to Hatta Dam, however it is traditionally a climb where the sprinters battle it out, and the GC contenders look to keep the time deficit to a minimum.

Alongside Wout and Mark we have a strong team with experienced Yukiya Arashiro helping our leaders on all stages, Enrico Battaglin and Marco Haller being part of the sprint train for Mark, while Eros Capecchi and Rafael Valls will be protecting Wout from crosswinds and on the climbs.

Our Sports Director Franco Pellizotii was brief: “The way the team started this season, everyone expects great things from UAE Tour. We worked very well and we expect an excellent GC from Wout Poels, and some excellent sprints from Mark Cavendish. The UAE Tour is a very important race for us, so we arrived very motivated.”
