Sonny Colbrelli in the top ten at Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne

Team Bahrain McLaren showed a solid performance on the second day of the Opening Weekend in Belgium. The 72nd edition of the Kuurne -Brussels – Kuurne featured a new course rolling through the Flemish Ardennes featuring 11 climbs. The route was harder than previous editions, making the finish more unpredictable and challenging for the sprinters.

The five-man breakaway was kept under control by the peloton, but with about 30km to go Kasper Asgreen (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) managed to catch the remaining riders in the breakaway proving to be a decisive move for victory.
Despite great work from the chasing group, including our Sonny Colbrelli and Heinrich Haussler, Asgreen managed to stay in front for the win. This left the peloton to sprint it out for second place.

Sonny Colbrelli took 7th place: “I’m happy with this result that came after the crash I had yesterday. We showed good performance as a team. I had good feelings and motivation after these two races and looking forward to the next ones”.
After yesterday’s hard work, Heinrich Haussler continued his strong form: “We saw a good effort from the team today. I was really happy with the boys’ work. It was really stressful all day. All in all, I think the Opening Weekend was a successful one, but there is still work to be done. Regarding me, it’s always a good sign if you had good legs and good sensations on the cobbles”.

Team Bahrain McLaren Sports Director Tristan Hoffman was satisfied with the team’s performance: “Today the race was better for us because we had a better result with Sonny. It was fast, with crosswinds, but our guys could stay at the front and did a good job. In the finale, we had three men there, and this makes me satisfied”.
Sports Director Tim Harris agreed with his colleague: “It was a good day. Now we’re looking forward to the upcoming classics. We got a good basis here to see good performances in the future”.
