The team put in a great effort to try and win today’s Queen stage. Wout Poels put on a great display to finish second on the most challenging stage of the Volta. It was Tadej Pogačar (UAE Emirates) who beat Poels to the line.
Reflecting on the stage, Poels said “It was a very good day a really hard stage with a lot of climbing, but the team worked very well, and Pello Bilbao on the break was a very good tactical move and help us a lot. The finish climb was very brutal, and of course, you won’t always to win but, in the end, second place was not bad.”
Pello Bilbao was one of the six riders who animated the 4th stage with a very long break caught with only 3km to go. “We were really motivated – explained Pello – to do a good job because we knew we were the strongest team today and so we tried to surprise the other riders to the final victory. It was difficult to arrive with only 40 seconds gap at the beginning of the last climb, but at least we tried”.
The hard work still paid off as we lead the team classification.
