Fred Wright wins one of the most prestigious stages of the first edition of the Giro d’Italia Virtual with the iconic finish line in Madonna di Campiglio. The riders faced the last 25.9km of the 17th stage of the Giro d’Italia from Bassano del Grappa to Madonna di Campiglio (202km) with a 12.5km final climb and 9% maximum gradient.
“I’m particularly satisfied with this win - says Fred - this morning I had good feelings and I was hoping to improve the 4th place that I got in the first stage. Of course, I didn’t think I’d win and I’m very happy that all the effort I made in the garage has led to something”.
“It was a really tough course - said the twenty-year-old from Manchester - but is glad to see that the lockdown training paid off and is good for the team in these difficult times”.
The young British talent preceded the Basque Gorka Izagirre by 2.07 and his teammate Rafa Valls by 3.03. Thanks also to the Spaniard rider’s performance, Team Bahrain McLaren recovers two positions and is now second overall with an 18.33 gap from Astana Pro Team.
