Cavendish set for team debut at Saudi Tour

February 3rd, 2020. – Saudi Arabia is set to host a world-class cycling race for the first time, while our team is set to fight for our first win early in the season.

The Kingdom’s capital Riyadh and its vicinity will host the five-stage Saudi Tour. While the stages are mostly flat, forecasted wind and a few punchy hills on stages one and four could have an impact on the race.

Our GC contender for the race is Jan Tratnik, who will have the support of Grega Bole and team captain Heinrich Haussler. When it comes to sprints, our team will work for Mark Cavendish. The team is strong with Phil Bauhaus and Marcel Seiberg leading the sprint train. At the same time, Fred Wright will be making his debut on the WorldTour and playing his role for the sprint train.

Franco Pellizotti, our Sports Director, gave us a short breakdown of what to expect: “This is the first Saudi Tour, and we came to the race with a good team. We have Mark Cavendish, and we all know his capabilities, we have young Wright as well as experienced Sieberg, Bole and Haussler. We expect a lot from Mark and Jan Tratnik. The Tour is not easy, there are at least two difficult stages, but the team is in good condition. We are racing close to Bahrain, so a win close to home would be very welcomed.”

Team lineup: Phil Bauhaus / Grega Bole / Mark Cavendish / Heinrich Haussler / Marcel Sieberg / Jan Tratnik / Fred Wright
