A fighting line-up for the BINCKBANK Tour 2020

Friday, 25th September 2020 – We are looking forward to the 16th edition of the only UCI WorldTour stage race in the Netherlands and Belgium that will take place from Tuesday 29th September until Saturday 3rd October.

The 2020 edition of the BinckBank Tour will be shortened to five stages, instead of the usual seven. The first stage is a flat one and begins on the coast, where stronger winds are expected. The second day will be an 11 km long ITT followed again by a flat stage on the coast with three local laps finish. The last two stages are hilly with the last day being a special challenge on a tough local course with four laps around Geraardsbergen, including the mythical Muur. All in all, the Binckbank Tour is an ideal build-up to the one-day classics that will take place in October.

Sports Director Tristan Hoffman has every reason to expect high results: “We have two strong and highly motivated sprinters in the race. Ivan Cortina, who has been showing excellent performance in the last weeks, is feeling well and ready for the BinckBank challenge. His chances are high, especially on Saturday when we will race on the ground of the Amstel Gold Race, and on the last day when we will drive on the Flanders cobblestone trails. Sonny Colbrelli is also extremely motivated, I just hope he will recover enough for the race and will be able to show his best, especially in the Individual Time Trial and on the last day together with Ivan.”

“I am highly motivated for the next challenge after the Tour de France,” confirmed the Italian sprinter, “and I hope I will also recover enough to show good performance. I will try to win the last stage and, of course, aim for the best result in the general classification.”

Ivan Cortina commented: “The last two days will be the hardest one, but the parcours will suit me and maybe I could have a good chance to go for the win. I would like to do also a good race for the general classification, like last year when I was 7th”.

Team Bahrain McLaren line-up for the BinckBank Tour 2020: Mark Cavendish, Ivan Cortina Garcia, Sonny Colbrelli, Heinrich Haussler, Luka Pibernik, Marcel Sieberg, Fred Wright.
